Royal Liverpool Ports

Historically, the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, known locally as Hoylake, is the most important in England. The Amateur Championship had its origins here and the club lies only behind Westward Ho! in maturity, being the second oldest of all English courses.

It was also the home club of great amateur players like John Ball, who won the Amateur Championship eight times and Harold Hilton, the first player to hold the amateur titles on both sides of the Atlantic in the same year.

Ten Open Championships and sixteen Amateur Championships, the Open is set to return in the near future. With its new length and subtle alterations by Donald Steel it will be one of the hardest tests on the Open rota. However it is one of the flattest links venues and extremely challenging.
