The Stella Maris Country House

The Stella Maris has a truly unusual history; it was originally built in 1853 as a Coast Guard Fortress, by the British Government, taking advantage of its commanding views over the Atlantic Ocean. In 1914 it was taken over by the Sisters of Mercy, and turned into a convent, from which they taught the local children until they acquired a building in the nearby town. The Stella Maris was then turned into a hotel and was acquired by the current owners in 2000, who have since spent a considerable amount of time and money converting it into the luxury venue that exists today.

As you would expect from a building with such a varied past it provides guests relaxation, tranquillity and mesmerizing beauty. Each of the 12 bedrooms has been individually decorated and many boast superb views over the rugged ocean and countryside. The restaurant has received many accolades and specializes in the use of fresh local fish.
